Apple announced its long-overdue artificial intelligence (AI) plans at the Apple Developer Conference (WWDC) on Monday.
Apple announced that Siri can use OpenAI's ChatGPT when needed.
Apple says Siri will ask users if they want to share your question with ChatGPT, which is also built into the system's writing tools. For example, users can create a bedtime story for their children and add images created by ChatGPT. Apple said these features will be free, users will not need to create an additional account, and these requests and information will not be logged.
The integration will be rolled out to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. Apple said it will add other third-party AI models in the future.
Musk blasted the move as an "unacceptable safety violation"
In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Elon Musk expressed concerns about whether Apple and OpenAI can protect user information.
He called the integration of software between the two companies an "unacceptable security breach" and said Apple had "no idea what was going on."
Apple is not smart enough to build its own AI, but claims to be able to somehow ensure that OpenAI protects users' security and privacy. This is patently ridiculous! Once Apple hands over your data to OpenAI, they have no idea what's going on. They are selling you downstream.
Musk also said that if Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, the use of Apple devices will be prohibited in his company. Visitors must be screened at the door and store their Apple devices in Faraday cages.
Note: A Faraday cage is a cage formed of metal or a good conductor. It protects the machine from electromagnetic interference and avoids eavesdropping.
