Dunamu is shutting down its ambitious metaverse platform, Second Block. It aimed for the non-face-to-face service market in line with the COVID-19 situation, but suffered a setback as the pandemic ended.
According to industry sources on the 12th, Dunamu announced on the 9th that it would end its Second Block service on September 9th. Second Block was launched in November 2021. In the same year, Dunamu CEO Lee Seok-woo's press conference was also held at Second Block. After that, Second Block collaborated with Dunamu's internal services in various ways, such as holding the AMA (Ask Me Anything) of the virtual asset project Mask Network, which Upbit conducted, at Second Block. Despite all this internal effort, it did not achieve any significant results, and ended up closing down after three years of launch.
A Dunamu official explained, “As we returned to a face-to-face-centered daily life after the end of the pandemic, the demand for non-face-to-face services naturally decreased,” and “We decided to end the second block in order to reflect the changed customer demand and respond flexibly to changes.”
