Base introduces Basenames, which allows users to create memorable names for their Ethereum wallet addresses, via the Ethereum Name Service,(ENS).
Base Launches Basenames – Easy-to-Remember Domain Names on Ethereum
The Base Layer 2 network, developed by Coinbase, is about to launch Basenames – subdomains generated through the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). This feature will help users convert their complex wallet addresses into more memorable and usable names.
According to the official website, Basenames will become “an on-chain platform, allowing anyone to establish their identity on Base.”
ENS subnames are names created under an existing ENS (parent name), similar to how subdomains work on traditional websites. The owner of an ENS name, such as ETH, can create and manage an unlimited number of subnames. For example, a user named Bob could register the basename ETH.
To ensure fairness for all users, Base will apply a Dutch auction format for all domains. The starting price will be 100 ETH and will gradually decrease to 0.39 ETH within the first 12 hours. After that, no premium fee will be applied.
Base head Jesse Pollak said on X that Basenames will launch on Tuesday. He also emphasized that Base's goal is to make it as easy as possible for users to participate in the blockchain ecosystem.
