According to ChainCatcher, U.S. prosecutors recommended a lighter sentence for former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison in a document filed with the court on September 17. Prosecutors said Ellison provided "extraordinary cooperation" in the prosecution of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and assisted in investigating misconduct by Alameda Research and FTX.
Prosecutors stressed that while Ellison played a central role in SBF's criminal scheme, she was not involved in all aspects of FTX. Ellison pleaded guilty in December 2022 and testified at SBF's trial.
Given Ellison's cooperation and dedication to the case, prosecutors believe her testimony is essential to the prosecution and conviction of SBF. Ellison's attorneys have previously requested a suspended sentence. She will appear in court on September 24 for sentencing.
