He Yi, the co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, held a Space discussion on the social media platform X this morning (18th) to introduce the new "Binance Alpha" platform launched by the Binance wallet. He personally answered questions from community users about it.
Binance Alpha aims to focus on promising early-stage blockchain projects and will showcase tokens that may be listed on the Binance exchange in the future. As the first 5 projects will be announced at 6:00 pm Taiwan time today (18th), they have attracted much attention from users.
Binance Official Releases Fake TG Group
However, Binance made a big blunder during the Space, mistakenly sending a link to a fake official Telegram group to the Space comment area, misleading users in the wrong Telegram group with false information. The following is a summary of the incident:
First, in the Space, He Yi said he would prepare a TG group related to "Binance Alpha", but the Space host said there was already a group, and the Binance Official Twitter then posted the link to the official TG group in the comment area.
In this group, the official TG account posted 5 tokens (earlier than the official 6 pm schedule) after the Space ended, saying they were selected for the Binance Alpha project, including: $Monky, $HAPPY, $RIF, $ZRC, and lowercase $ELIZA.
As soon as the news came out, the 5 selected tokens immediately skyrocketed.
However, He Yi immediately stated that this TG group was fake, causing the aforementioned 5 tokens to plummet.
Subsequently, official personnel stated that the TG group was indeed released by the Official Twitter, but the link was sent incorrectly, and the author speculates that it may have been an internal employee's mistake in releasing a test Telegram group.
Community Criticizes Binance's Recent Mistakes
This "fake TG chaos" also led to multiple liquidation incidents in the community. Many community users believed the information provided by Binance about "Binance Alpha", but due to He Yi's statement that "it's fake, this is not Binance's", their spot and contract positions were tragically locked or liquidated.
Just last night, when Binance listed the Penguin token $PENGU, the market cap data also had errors, similarly causing a lot of criticism from the community. Regarding Binance's recent frequent mistakes, many community users and KOLs couldn't help but criticize on social media platforms:
Community KOL @shawnchen_eth posted:
Binance has had 3 market cap data errors, a wrong TG link, and chaotic high-value VC listings within two weeks. Given Binance's industry position, this is very outrageous.
Community KOL @shianqianyu also said: "In the face of such situations where the TG link is sent incorrectly, what can we do, what can we do?" seeming to feel powerless.
