1. Introduction
Recently, AI agents have been a hot topic in the crypto space, attracting widespread attention from early adopters to major investors. The excitement around these technologies is no less than the DeFi summer of 2020-2021. (Thanks to @MessariCrypto for the following data)
This is not just hype - new experiments, novel research, and innovative applications of AI agents are emerging every day, from automated trading bots to real-time market analysis tools. This surge in interest is very similar to the early days of DeFi, when no one wanted to miss out on what could be the next big thing in the crypto space.
From Terminal of Truth(@truth_terminal) to Zerebro(@0xzerebro) and Virtuals(@virtuals_io), to ai16z(@ai16zdao), aixbt(@aixbt_agent) and more (too many to list), we are seeing a stream of exciting ideas emerge, all leveraging the powerful potential of AI agents.
Now, a new term is gaining popularity: "DeFAI". If you're reading this article, you probably already know what it's a combination of. Yes, that's right - it's a fusion of DeFi and AI. Just hearing these words - it sounds amazing, doesn't it?!
2. The State of DeFAI
In this article, I want to discuss the concept currently being referred to as "DeFAI" and share some of my thoughts on how it might evolve in the future.
If we look at the DeFAI projects currently in development, I would categorize them as follows:
Tools (or interfaces) that make DeFi more user-friendly
AI agents focused on analysis, such as market analysis and forecasting
AI agents that automate DeFi activities (such as trading automation)
Okay, let's list some of the key projects in each category:
1. Tools (interfaces) that make DeFi more user-friendly
- ANON (@HeyAnonai)
HeyAnon is a DeFAI protocol developed by @danielesesta (yes, WAGMI) that aims to simplify DeFi interactions and integrate key information related to projects. By combining real-time data with conversational AI, HeyAnon allows users to manage DeFi operations, track project updates, and understand trends across different platforms. It uses natural language processing technology to parse user instructions, execute complex DeFi tasks, and provide near-real-time insights.

The HeyAnon team is also developing a new product: a TypeScript-based framework called Automate. Once completed, you can expect to seamlessly integrate any protocol into a secure, predictable, AI-driven, multi-chain DeFi environment.

Griffain allows users to create and manage AI agents that can perform various on-chain operations, such as token swaps, liquidity provision, etc. Its functionality is similar to HeyAnon, but it is primarily based on the Solana ecosystem and operates within it.
2. AI agents focused on analysis, such as market analysis and forecasting

The "Digital Gold Fund" is a prime example, managed by @RabbiSchlomo_Ai in $cbBTC, running fully automated with no human intervention. AI agents like @RabbiSchlomo_Ai will make all investment decisions independently, with the fund committee only rebalancing when absolutely necessary.
3. My Thoughts and a 2025 DeFAI Summer Bull Market Prediction
For DeFAI, we are in an exciting time. The fusion of DeFi and AI is not just hype - it will rapidly transform the way we handle finance. Over the past few years, DeFi has steadily progressed, still being one of the industries with tremendous growth potential (I'm waiting for @AndreCronjeTech's return). If technologies like Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) or even AGI eventually become part of this transformation, what I see is an even bigger explosion. It feels like the well-known "DeFi Summer" growth, even if the calendar doesn't mark it.
AI agents are honing their skills in handling complex financial tasks. They stand on the shoulders of years of DeFi innovation and may be empowered by TEE technology in the future, creating a new level of trust and reliability. As these systems continue to mature, more people - from experienced traders to new users attracted by simplified interfaces - will join in. Better natural language processing, real-time analytics, and automated trading bots will break down entry barriers, making DeFi more accessible and efficient.
Interoperability is another game-changing factor. DeFAI projects will not operate in isolation. They will seamlessly integrate, share insights, and collaborate. Imagine an AI agent leveraging real-time market data and analysis from aixbt - feeding those insights directly into automated trading strategies. When user-friendly tools, analysis-driven AI agents, and automation bots come together, the synergy could be magical - attracting more investment and igniting community momentum.
And we can't overlook the potential of AGI. While it remains elusive, its eventual arrival could elevate decision-making, predictive analytics, and automated strategies to an entirely new level.
At the core of it all is a community of forward-thinking thinkers and doers. People like @danielesesta are not only pushing the boundaries of technology, but also maintaining an open and transparent approach. In summary, my 2025 DeFAI bull market thesis is built on the convergence of technological readiness, continued DeFi development, future security innovations like TEEs, and the alluring prospect of AGI. AI is being woven into the fabric of DeFi, and we are on the cusp of entering a transformative era in the crypto world.
