On March 21, the nominee for the chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Paul Atkins, will attend the confirmation hearing at the Senate Banking Committee on March 27. If approved, the full Senate will hold a final vote. Atkins, a former SEC commissioner, is a supporter of digital assets and previously founded a financial compliance consulting firm in Washington. He is expected to continue the crypto-friendly regulatory stance promoted by the Trump administration, replacing former SEC chair Gary Gensler, who has been criticized for taking an "enforcement-style" approach to the crypto industry.
The hearing on the same day also includes the nominee for the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Jonathan Gould. The OCC is responsible for regulating U.S. national banks, which is crucial for crypto firms' efforts to gain banking access and the regulation of stablecoins. Additionally, the Senate will also consider the nomination of Luke Pettit for the position of Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
