Planet Daily News: Bhutan's government transferred Bitcoin worth $63 million to three wallets on March 24, with one wallet holding approximately 600 bitcoins valued at around $53 million. Since 2019, Bhutan has been mining Bitcoin using its abundant hydroelectric power. A wallet belonging to Duke Holdings now holds $889 million in Bitcoin after the transfer. As of 2023, Bhutan's cryptocurrency reserves represent 30.7% of its GDP. In addition to Bitcoin, Duke Holdings' wallet also contains small amounts of Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. In October 2024, Bhutan transferred $66 million in Bitcoin to Binance and has recently continued moving Bitcoin and Ethereum to other addresses. Bhutan is not only adopting cryptocurrencies at the national level, but the Glebut Special Administrative Region also plans to incorporate various digital assets into its strategic reserves.
