PANews reports on April 4th that Illinois plans to withdraw its staking-related lawsuit against Coinbase, becoming the fourth U.S. state to drop the case after Kentucky, Vermont, and South Carolina.
Currently, Alabama, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, and Wisconsin continue their staking-related lawsuits against Coinbase. Representatives from New Jersey and Washington confirmed that their cases are ongoing, while California, Maryland, and Wisconsin have refused to comment. Alabama has not yet responded to media inquiries.
Previously, these states accused Coinbase of violating state securities laws through its staking program. In 2023, 10 U.S. states filed similar charges against Coinbase. Additionally, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had sued Coinbase for alleged federal securities law violations but withdrew the lawsuit in February this year.
Previous reports indicated that Kentucky joined South Carolina and Vermont in withdrawing its lawsuit against Coinbase.
