The U.S. Senate confirmed Paul Atkins, nominated by President Donald Trump, as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with a vote of 51-45, where most senators voted along party lines.
This appointment was made a few months after Trump selected Atkins at the end of last year to lead the SEC.
Atkins was previously an SEC Commissioner from 2002 to 2008.
He will succeed Mark Uyeda, who has served as the Acting Chairman of the SEC since January 20.
"We welcome Paul Atkins as the next Chairman of the SEC. With his long-standing experience at the Commission, we look forward to him joining us and our dedicated staff to fulfill our mission for the benefit of investing public," Uyeda and Commissioners Hester Peirce and Caroline Crenshaw wrote in a statement on April 9.
