Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) venture capital investment company has announced a $55 million investment in LayerZero, a Web3 company developing a cross-chain messaging protocol. This investment was disclosed in a post on X on April 17 by Ali Yahya, a general partner of a16z.

Previously, a16z had invested in LayerZero, including an initial investment in March 2022 and a subsequent investment in LayerZero's Series B funding round in April 2023. The two companies did not disclose the valuation of this funding round.
LayerZero, based in Canada, was valued at $3 billion in the Series B funding round, attracting the participation of 33 investors. In addition to a16z, companies such as Circle Ventures, OKX Ventures, OpenSea Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and many other investors also participated.
In January 2025, LayerZero reached an agreement with FTX Estate regarding a long-standing dispute alleging that the company exploited the exchange's liquidation crisis by "negotiating a distressed sale." In June 2024, LayerZero launched its own token, LayerZero (ZRO).
