Ripple Commits $25 Million in RLUSD Stablecoin to Two U.S. Nonprofit Educational Organizations, Aiming to Address Budget Shortfalls and Support Teachers.
Ripple – the blockchain technology company behind XRP Ledger – has just announced a $25 million commitment in Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin to two nonprofit educational organizations in the U.S., aiming to help address budget shortfalls and enhance support for teachers and students in the K–12 education system.
The funding will be allocated to DonorsChoose and Teach For America, two prominent organizations in grassroots educational support, through The Giving Block cryptocurrency donation platform. This is an intermediary platform specializing in processing crypto donations for charitable purposes, reflecting the increasing integration of digital assets into social sectors.
This move comes as the U.S. education system faces numerous challenges, particularly severe resource shortages in public schools. According to a 2024 Gallup survey, up to 55% of parents and adults in the U.S. express dissatisfaction with current primary education quality. Ripple believes this result partly reflects budget limitations and a lack of sustainable investment in education.
Alix Guerrier, Executive Director of DonorsChoose, stated: "Many teachers are paying hundreds, even thousands of dollars out of pocket to fully equip their classrooms. The funding from Ripple will help reduce financial pressure and allow them to focus on their educational mission."
Brad Garlinghouse – Ripple's CEO – expressed hope that this initiative will create a ripple effect in the business community: "We hope this action will inspire other organizations to join in, starting with Teacher Appreciation Week, to build a more sustainable future for teachers, students, and society as a whole."
From Teach For America, CEO Aneesh Sohoni noted that the funding will support expanding strategic programs like Ignite Tutoring Fellows, promoting innovative educational models through Reinvention Lab, and strengthening the financial foundation for training the next generation of teachers.
Ripple's initiative is a typical example of the strong development of charity activities based on digital assets. In recent years, an increasing number of blockchain industry organizations have been participating in large-scale social activities. Notably, Changpeng "CZ" Zhao – Binance's founder – previously donated over $500,000 in crypto to support earthquake victims, while the Blockchain For Impact organization committed $90 million to biomedical research.
The Giving Block – the platform executing Ripple's donation initiative – predicts that total cryptocurrency donations could reach $2.5 billion by 2025. This figure demonstrates the potential of a new, transparent, cross-border, and innovative financial channel for global nonprofit organizations.
