
PANews reports on May 19 that according to Cointelegraph, Coinbase is facing a class-action lawsuit for allegedly violating the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) in Illinois, USA. The plaintiffs accuse Coinbase of collecting, storing, and sharing facial recognition data without users' written consent during the KYC process, and failing to provide guidelines for data destruction. The lawsuit also points out that Coinbase transmitted data to third-party verification providers like Jumio, with over 10,000 people reportedly initiating arbitration. The plaintiffs are seeking $5,000 in damages for each violation.
