In 2024, Notcoin, which was initially a simple 'click game', emerged as a global phenomenon. What was the designer dreaming of behind this project that gained immediate attention by recording a market capitalization of up to 2.5 trillion won? TokenPost met with Notcoin co-founder Sergei for an in-depth interview covering the project's beginning, community-centered strategy, and future roadmap.
"An experiment starting from clicks, we surprised everyone without expectations"
Notcoin was different from traditional blockchain projects from the start. "We had neither a whitepaper nor a roadmap," Sergei emphasizes. Notcoin, a click-based simple game, started as a Telegram mini-app and attracted millions of users within just a few months after its official launch in early 2024.
"We wanted to avoid complexity. Many cryptocurrency projects often create excessive expectations and end up disappointing. We prioritized 'fun', and that seemed to resonate with many people."
Notably, during Notcoin's onboarding process, users could start the game without installing a separate wallet or going through KYC. Most users naturally joined through friend invitation links and chose whether to participate in the tokenization process after enjoying the play.
"36 million people played, and 12 million actually converted tokens. This demonstrates the success of a 'play first, onboard later' approach."
"100% community-centered token distribution... No whales"
Notcoin's tokenomics was groundbreaking in itself. Without pre-sale or initial investors, 95% of the total circulation was directly distributed to the community. Essentially, it was a structure without so-called 'whales'.
"We believed people wouldn't immediately sell. Actually, many core users are still holding tokens. Except for a few influencers who joined through invitations, no one has a large market share. This also helped stabilize the market."
Additionally, Sergei defines tokens not as mere reward mechanisms but as 'proof of participation'. Currently, they are creating a structure through the 'NotGames' platform where Notcoin can be used in various games, planning to expand a practical utility ecosystem.
"We're building not a play-to-earn model, but a 'reward system based on competition and skill'. For example, only tournament winners receive rewards. We plan to release 7 titles this year and have already unveiled the first game, 'Void'."
"Korea is an important base... We wanted to meet the community directly"
The Notcoin team recently visited Korea for offline community events and partnerships. Sergei expressed special affection, saying Korea is a country that is "culturally profound and has very high community participation".
"It's a place with passion for Web3 and simultaneously strong loyalty to Web2. So, our activities in Korea are an opportunity to test how 'user-centered' we can be. We want to continue various projects with the Korean community, such as Non-Fungible Token stickers, artist collaborations, and value-based game expansion."
He concluded the interview by saying, "Our goal is not just to create another blockchain project, but to build an ecosystem where anyone can easily access, enjoy, and gain real value."
