WalletConnect, a popular decentralized wallet connection protocol in the Web3 ecosystem, has officially expanded support for the WCT token to the Solana network after launching on Ethereum and Optimism. According to the latest announcement from the WalletConnect Foundation, the organization will distribute an airdrop of 5 million WCT to the community of active users on Solana through partners such as Phantom, Jupiter, Backpack, and Solflare.
Pedro Gomes, founder and director of WalletConnect, said that this airdrop is part of the total 185 million WCT that the Foundation has specifically reserved since last September to serve community distribution campaigns. This will also be the second largest airdrop of the project, following the distribution of 50 million WCT to the WalletConnect community in Q1/2024.
According to the plan, the token reception program for Solana users will officially open this summer. Eligibility criteria, distribution schedule, and detailed instructions on how to receive WCT will be announced in the coming weeks.
By expanding to the Solana network - one of the current top blockchains with high speed and low transaction costs - WalletConnect continues to affirm its commitment to building a seamless bridge between Web3 wallets and thousands of decentralized applications across various blockchain ecosystems.
