Netflix limited series The Altruists begins filming, featuring SBF and Caroline Ellison’s FTX scandal

Netflix is about to launch a brand new eight-episode limited series 'The Altruists', led by popular actors Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle, telling the story of Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) and Caroline Ellison, controversial figures in the crypto world, transforming from "idealists" to "financial scandal protagonists". The series has also gathered a top-tier creative team and production company, including an Oscar screenwriter, a heavyweight director, and the Higher Ground production company founded by the Obamas.

From Hero to Fraud: The Collapse of a Financial Ideal

'The Altruists' will focus on FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, a young elite couple who rapidly rose and fell during the crypto storm. The series describes how they tried to redefine the global financial system through technology and capital, but ultimately became involved in an $8 billion fraud case.

The series is co-led by Oscar Best Adapted Screenplay winner Graham Moore ('The Imitation Game') and veteran series screenwriter Jacqueline Hoyt ('Underground Railroad', 'The Leftovers'). Moore stated: "For the past three years, Sam and Caroline's story has been my daily obsession. I'm very grateful that Netflix and Higher Ground also love this story. We can't wait to present it to global audiences."

The series will feature three-time Emmy Award winner Julia Garner playing Caroline Ellison, who has demonstrated multi-layered acting skills in 'Ozark' and 'Inventing Anna'; Anthony Boyle will play Sam Bankman-Fried, the "crypto prodigy" from MIT. Boyle, who has starred in 'Masters of the Air' and 'Say Nothing', has received critical acclaim for his acting.

The production team also includes core members of the Obamas' Higher Ground Productions, Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky, as well as Scoop Wasserstein from New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios.
