PANews reported on July 11 that according to CryptoSlate, court documents from July 10 showed that Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm's lawyers said they might request a brief postponement of his upcoming criminal trial if the judge allows a hacker allegedly using the platform to testify. Storm's defense team filed a motion to exclude the unnamed witness with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, as the prosecution disclosed the witness's identity after the agreed deadline. The witness is alleged to be the perpetrator of a hacking incident who used the Ethereum mixer to launder funds and conceal their tracks.
Storm's lawyers believe that the testimony could provoke jury anger and unfairly influence their perception of the defendant. If the court rejects the exclusion motion, they reserve the right to request a postponement. Storm's trial is scheduled to begin on July 14, with the judge expected to rule on the witness motion before the weekend, and jury selection to take place on Monday under Judge Katherine Failla.
