On July 13, White House Economic Advisor Hassett stated that if there is supporting evidence, US President Trump has the right to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, and added that the Federal Reserve bears "significant responsibility" for the cost overruns in renovating its Washington headquarters.
Hassett said that any decision by Trump to fire Powell would largely depend on the Federal Reserve's response to the headquarters renovation issue. White House Budget Office Director Voth last week accused Powell of "lying" about the renovation of the Federal Reserve building. Trump repeatedly stated that Powell should resign because he did not lower interest rates. (Jinshi)
