WLFI Opens September

It’s the 90th edition of the Gems Corner, and today we will be looking at the WLFI token and drama, alongside other alphas.

It’s been a while here - glad to be back.

This week, the biggest crypto story isn’t about DeFi yield wars or Layer-2 scaling: it’s about politics, power, and one of the most controversial token launches of 2025: World Liberty Financial ($WLFI).

The token tied to the Trump orbit just hit the markets, and the numbers are crazy, but so are the red flags. Let’s unpack.

WLFI Goes Live!

To give you a context, World Liberty Financial (WLFI) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) project backed by Donald Trump & Family. They conducted their token sale in October 2024, raising $300 million. Afterwhich, a second sale was conducted, with which they raised $250 million.

The token is set is become tradable on the 1st September, 2025 (being today), after months of waiting. The tokenomics is as follows:

As of writing, $WLFI is trading at a market cap of $8.9billion, and with about 28 billion tokens in circulation, out of 100 billion tokens in supply. So far, it’s a great launch. Pre-sale participants are on profit, so everyone is happy. It was listed on major exchanges, including Binance.

The Drama & Red Flags

• Self-Dealing Allegations

  • World Liberty allegedly sold WLFI tokens to itself via Alt5 Sigma (a company they’re invested in).

  • That’s like raising money from your own pocket — regulators call it a conflict of interest.

• Foreign Money

  • Token sales reportedly pulled in $550M+, with buyers linked to Justin Sun and Abu Dhabi state-backed firms.

  • Political + foreign = guaranteed SEC/CFPB/DOJ interest.

• Centralization

  • WLFI calls itself DeFi, but the governance + revenue flows are entirely insider-controlled.

  • Think less “community coin,” more “political SPAC in token form.”

• Infinite Money Glitch?

  • WSJ called it “the Trump family cashing in on the Infinite Money Glitch.”

  • Investors are essentially betting on hype, not fundamentals.
