Polymarket – one of the largest on-chain prediction market platforms – has integrated Chainlink ’s oracle infrastructure to provide data validation and automate prediction settlement.
According to the announcement, the partnership combines Chainlink Data Streams (which provides real-time, time-stamped, low-latency price data) with Chainlink Automation (which triggers on-chain payments at predetermined times). The system is now live on the Polygon mainnet for crypto price prediction markets, making results faster and less susceptible to manipulation. The two parties will also test Chainlink data for subjective questions, reducing the reliance on community voting.
The move is aimed at addressing a longstanding weakness of prediction markets: slow or contested processing, which can delay payouts and raise concerns about manipulation. Polymarket previously had to change its oracle mechanism, switching from Optimistic Oracle V2 to UMA's Managed Optimistic Oracle V2, which limits the number of resolution proposals to improve the quality of results. This followed controversies involving third-party oracle management attacks, which even led to a multimillion-dollar controversy surrounding a betting market over the attire of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Chainlink – which secures much of the DeFi space with its decentralized oracle network – says the integration will turn prediction market outcomes into “trusted, real-time signals.” Founder Sergey Nazarov notes: “When market outcomes are determined by high-quality data and tamper-proof computation from oracles, prediction markets will become a signal source the world can trust.”
Launched in 2020, Polymarket allows users to trade on the outcomes of future events, and has grown into one of the largest prediction markets in crypto, with both retail and institutional investors using market rates as a source of information. This year, Polymarket also agreed to acquire QCEX, a CFTC-licensed exchange, in preparation for its expansion into the US market.
