On December 18th, at an important conference chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr. Phan Duc Trung, Chairman of the Vietnam Blockchain Association, presented a report on the deployment of the Vietnam Blockchain Service Network (VBSN) into state management activities and public service provision, with VNeID as a prime example.
According to the report, blockchain technology has now been practically applied in tracing the origin of precursors and chemicals managed by the Ministry of Public Security. Notably, this system not only operates at the internal operational level but is also directly integrated into the national electronic identification application VNeID. This allows for more transparent verification and checking of information related to precursors and chemicals, reduces fraud, and enhances real-time monitoring capabilities – a particularly important factor in ensuring social security and safety.
Not stopping at VNeID, the "Make in Vietnam" blockchain ecosystem is expanding into many other fields. One of the applications attracting attention is ChainTracer, a system that helps track projects and crypto flows with unusual activity, contributing to the early detection of risks and violations in the digital asset space by regulatory authorities. Simultaneously, blockchain has also been implemented to authenticate diplomas and certificates at the Cryptography Technical Academy, helping to combat forgery and simplify the academic verification process. In the finance and banking sector, a decentralized identity model based on blockchain is currently being piloted at several major banks, promising to reduce reliance on traditional centralized authentication systems while enhancing personal data security.
The integration of blockchain into VNeID is particularly significant because it is the national electronic identification application with tens of millions of users, playing a "backbone" Vai in the digital government ecosystem. When blockchain appears at this level, the technology is no longer an experimental concept or solely associated with cryptocurrencies, but has become part of the technical infrastructure serving national governance, in line with the direction the Vietnamese government is pursuing.
This move also comes as blockchain has been officially identified as a national strategic technology under Decision 1131 of the Prime Minister. This decision places blockchain on par with other foundational technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, paving the way for systematic investment, infrastructure development, and a long-term legal framework. The deployment and connection of VBSN with key systems like VNeID demonstrates that this strategic direction is gradually being realized through concrete products and services.
