My DNA sequencing results show my ancestry is the Zhang family of Wujun, ironically sharing a common ancestor with the Zhao family, a distant descendant of the Aisin Gioro imperial family. Even more ironically, this Zhao family does not share a common ancestor with the Aisin Gioro imperial family. This is not surprising. The Manchu ethnicity is primarily a cultural and historical identity group; genetic sequencing makes it difficult to distinguish between Han and Manchu. However, the Aisin Gioro family of the Qing dynasty uses the C2b1a gene, which is highly homologous to the Buryat people of Siberia, clearly distinguishing them from the mainstream Manchu population.
