We're obsessed with what is scarce. "Taste" is scarce. "Agency" is scarce. It'll all be true for some brief period of time, but this is the wrong frame of reference entirely. Maybe we should be ok knowing that what makes us special isn't any notion of scarcity. We don't need to be "king of the hill" in order to want to, and to continue existing. Maybe what makes us special is just that we wish to continue existing. Increasingly I find humans scrambling to find what about them is scarce, special, different. I think we must be ok with the possibility the answer is "nothing" and continue doing what we feel is important anyway.
