After more than 3.5 years of operation, the Sound.xyz platform has officially announced that it will cease all services starting January 16, 2026. This announcement was posted directly on Sound.xyz's homepage and the project's official social media channels, urging users to withdraw all assets and Non-Fungible Token before the closure date to avoid unnecessary losses when the system completely shuts down.
Sound.xyz launched in late 2021, aiming to transform music into exclusive Non-Fungible Token products on the Ethereum blockchain and later Optimism Layer-2, allowing artists to directly monetize their fans in a completely new way — not through traditional streaming platforms. The platform has received support from many major investors and famous artists, and in several drops, has paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to creators through Non-Fungible Token sales. The project previously raised $20 million in a Series A Capital round, led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z crypto).
During its heyday, Sound.xyz allowed fans to listen for free before deciding to collect Non-Fungible Token, preserving artist ownership and maximizing benefits for creators in each transaction. It was once a symbol of the decentralized future of music, even XEM the "SoundCloud of Web3," but with the ability to monetize directly through Non-Fungible Token.
