Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin discussed the network’s technical development and long-term goals in his assessment for 2025.
Buterin noted that significant progress has been made in the Ethereum ecosystem over the past year, emphasizing that these developments bring the network one step closer to its vision of becoming the “world computer.”
According to Buterin, Ethereum’s gas limit was increased in 2025, expanding the network’s transaction capacity. Simultaneously, the increase in the number of blobs resulted in significant gains in data availability and scalability.
These advancements, particularly critical for rollups and>Buterin also pointed out that significant breakthroughs have been made in terms of performance in the zkEVM field. These zero-knowledge proof-based technologies play a key role in Ethereum’s achievement of both privacy and scalability goals. However, Buterin stated that despite all this progress, Ethereum still has a long way to go.
Buterin stated that instead of chasing short-term market narratives, Ethereum should aim to be the fundamental infrastructure of a freer and more open internet, emphasizing the need for continued work on usability, scalability, and decentralization at both the blockchain and application levels. According to him, lasting success depends on developing these three elements in a balanced way.
