In 2024, Lichtenstein was sentenced to five years in prison for her involvement in the 2016 Bitfinex hack, on charges including conspiracy to launder money and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. Shortly afterward, her wife, Heather Morgan, was also sentenced, but prosecutors stated she played a minor role in the money laundering conspiracy.
