According to ChainCatcher, Vitalik Buterin stated in an article on the X platform that increasing bandwidth is more secure and reliable than reducing latency. With PeerDAS and ZKP, Ethereum's scalability can be improved by thousands of times without conflicting with decentralization. Latency, on the other hand, is limited by physical laws and real-world conditions, such as the need to support global home nodes, censorship resistance, and anonymity.
He pointed out that reducing latency to the range of 2–4 seconds is a reasonable goal, while applications requiring higher real-time performance (such as AI-driven applications) will rely on localized extensions such as L2 and “city chains”.
