Story Protocol and OpenLedger launch AI-powered automatic copyright payment mechanism, targeting an $80 trillion market.

According to Mars Finance, Story Protocol and OpenLedger announced a collaboration to launch a new standard that enables AI systems to legally use creative works and automatically pay copyright holders. Under the agreement, intellectual property registered on Story Protocol can be licensed for use in AI training and AI-generated content. OpenLedger, as an AI-native blockchain, will enforce these licenses and process payments within the AI system. The two companies are building a shared on-chain standard to record ownership, usage, and payment recipients of works. This move comes against the backdrop of a continued increase in AI-related litigation, with many cases revolving around intellectual property in 2025. Data from the World Intellectual Property Organization shows that the global IP market is valued at over $80 trillion. An OpenLedger representative stated that the system will shift AI from a "train first, then litigate" approach to one that only uses content for which it can prove its right to use.
