Vitalik is rethinking Ethereum’s rollup-first plan Vitalik Buterin says Ethereum’s original rollup-centric roadmap no longer makes sense. L2s have decentralized far slower than planned, while the base layer has kept moving forward. Instead of treating L2s as “branded shards” of Ethereum, he’s suggesting a broader view: L2s can sit at different levels of trust and connection to Ethereum, but should at least reach basic decentralization, or be seen more as separate chains with bridges. Scaling alone isn’t enough anymore. If L2s want to matter, they’ll need to offer something beyond just throughput.
