Sir Thomas More was born today in 1478 into a prosperous London family.
He became Lord High Chancellor of England and was executed when he refused to recognize King Henry VIII as head of the Church.
“I die the King’s good servant, and God’s first.”
He also condemned Protestant "heretics" to death. He was hoisted by his own petard.
