Ready for YET ANOTHER proposed state law which would force all Operating Systems (from Windows to Linux) to include age verification?
I present to you: New York Senate Bill S8102A
This New York law would “require all manufacturers of Internet-enabled devices, operating systems, or application stores to conduct commercially reason-able and technically feasible age assurance for users at the point of device activation.”
You read that right. This would mandate “commercially viable age verification” on:
- Every Operating System
- Every “App Store”
- And every “Internet Enabled Device” (meaning: anything connected to the Internet)
The penalty for not complying with this law would be $10,000 per violation.
This bill is currently in committee and is being sponsored by a Democrat, @sen_gounardes.
