According to Decrypt, Canadian police are warning that scammers are impersonating the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to perpetrate "crypto asset recovery scams," targeting victims who have already been scammed. One resident, who previously lost approximately $5,000 CAD to a crypto "remote work" scam, subsequently received a call after filling out a fake RCMP notice form. The caller claimed to have discovered approximately $60,000 CAD in "crypto earnings" in the resident's name and offered to assist in their recovery. Police emphasize that the RCMP will not contact individuals to inform them of discovered crypto accounts, will not partner with private organizations to offer paid recovery services, and will not request any fees for investigating fraudulent cases.
