According to Odaily Odaily, Bitcoin investor Olivier Janssens plans to build a libertarian community project called Destiny on the Caribbean island of Nevis. He has sent emails to his mailing list stating that once a final agreement with the government is approved, he will immediately pay $100 per month to all Nevis residents (including children). The project previously planned to distribute 5% of its profits to local residents; this move to begin payments ahead of schedule represents a significant increase from Janssens' initial proposal of 30 Eastern Caribbean dollars (approximately $11) per person in November 2025.
The proposal has drawn criticism from the island's opposition. Former government minister Carlisle Powell called it an attempt to pressure the authorities to pass the project, while Nevis Reform Party member Kelvin Daly described it on Facebook as "open bribery" and an act of private developers interfering in the country's domestic political and economic affairs.
The Destiny project, described by the local government as a multi-billion dollar development, involves a large-scale redevelopment of the island's south coast, including villas and a medical clinic. It plans to purchase approximately 2,400 acres of land, roughly one-tenth of the island's area. Nevis Prime Minister Mark Brantley has submitted the agreement signed with the company to the federal government for approval.
