Shenzhen, China, March 26, 2026 – Eugene Xiao, Chairman of the Global Digital Identity Alliance (DID Alliance) and Founder of the Asia Pacific Innovation Center (APIC), recently held a high-level meeting with His Excellency Masanneh Nyuku Kinteh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Gambia to China, and Tan Sri Prof. Dr. Aixinjuelue Yuhao, Ambassador-at-Large of Gambia to Southeast Asia. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on promoting the construction of Gambia's national digital identity system, the digitization of sovereign assets (RWA), and cross-border financial settlement, and formally reached a strategic cooperation intention.
Strategic Background: Emerging Forces in Africa's Digital Economy
The Republic of Gambia, located in West Africa, is one of the continent's most dynamic developing countries. As a vital trade hub in West Africa, Gambia has been actively pursuing digital transformation in recent years, while maintaining its traditional strengths in agriculture and tourism, to optimize government governance, financial inclusion, and the efficiency of social services. With the advancement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Gambia is seeking to enhance its competitiveness in global value chains through cutting-edge technologies, aiming to become a model for West Africa's digital economic transformation.
Reconstructing Digital Sovereignty: Creating a "Logical Constitution" for Sovereign States
During the talks, Eugene explained to the Gambian delegation the underlying logic of the DID Alliance in reshaping the order of digital civilization. He pointed out that against the backdrop of generative AI impacting authenticity and the gradual decline of centralized identity systems, the return of digital sovereignty has become an inevitable choice for sovereign states to improve governance effectiveness.
“DID is not just a technical protocol; it is the ‘logical constitution’ of digital life,” Eugene said. “By returning ownership of identity to individuals and entrusting the power of verification to mathematics, we can build an immutable, globally interconnected foundation of trust for sovereign states. This collaboration with Gambia marks a significant step forward for the DID Alliance in advancing the global process of ‘identity as sovereignty.’”

2026 Strategic Vision: Towards "One Identity, Global Access"
According to the agreement reached, the DID Alliance will assist relevant Gambian departments in exploring on-chain mapping of population databases and promote the practical application of identity verification technology in cross-border trade and financial settlement.
This meeting not only strengthened the DID Alliance's strategic presence in Africa but also further validated its status as a global digital public infrastructure. Both sides agreed that by returning identity verification to algorithms and ownership determination to mathematics, they will jointly usher in a new era of more efficient and equitable sovereignty attestation.
