Forbes contributors publish independent expert analyses and insights. Last summer, the world said goodbye to one of the greatest musical geniuses to ever live. Brian Wilson, the man who helped create The Beach Boys and who shaped the group's pioneering pop-rock sound, passed away in June at the age of 82. Music lovers in the United States are still in enamored with The Beach Boys, and the group may be known as one of the quintessential American bands. Interest in the act's catalog has grown recently - not that it ever diminishes by much - and one of the outfit's most popular compilations returns to one tally while finally landing on another for the very first time. Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys Debuts Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys launches on the Top Rock and Alternative Albums chart this frame. The compilation, which includes many of the band's most popular tunes, opens at No. 48 on Billboard's list of the most-consumed collections that can be classified as alternative, hard rock, rock, or any other subgenres that fit under those umbrella terms. The Beach Boys Earn Another Entry on the Rock Chart The Beach Boys claim just a fourth career placement on the Top Rock and Alternative Albums ranking as Sounds of Summer arrives. Previously, Merry Christmas from The Beach Boys, The Warmth of the Sun, and Pet Sounds have all reached the tally, though none have managed to hold on for even a month. The Beach Boys Reach a New Career Low As it debuts, Sounds of Summer becomes the lowest-peaking title by The Beach Boys on the Top Rock and Alternative Albums roster. It grabs that distinction from Pet Sounds, which, despite being one of the most critically-acclaimed full-lengths in U.S. history, only ever spent one frame at No. 32 and then disappeared. Somewhat shockingly, Pet Sounds didn't make it to the Top Rock and Alternative Albums chart until June of 2025 following the passing of Wilson. The celebrated musical troupe claims just one top 10 win on the rock albums roster, as Merry Christmas from The Beach Boys peaked at No. 10 following the 2019 holiday season. The Warmth of the Sun came close to that tier, but missed out by a few spaces, instead stalling at No. 13. The Beach Boys Join The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi Every frame, the Rock and Alternative Albums chart is republished with 50 spaces. Sometimes there are many new arrivals, while in other instances, such as this frame, only a handful of projects debut. A few spaces ahead of The Beach Boys at No. 43 comes Future Soul by Tedeschi Trucks Band. Two previous top 10s - Greatest Hits: The Ultimate Collection by Bon Jovi and Hot Rocks 1964-1971 from The Rolling Stones - reenter the roster. Unlike Sounds of Summer, those compilations have already spent hundreds of weeks rising and falling on the tally. Sounds of Summer Returns to the Billboard 200 At the same time that Sounds of Summer finally appears on the Top Rock and Alternative Albums chart, the set finds its way back to the Billboard 200. On the company's list of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the nation, Sounds of Summer bounces back in at No. 197. In the past, it has come close to cracking the top 10, as it surfed its way to No. 14. Sounds of Summer Holds as a Sturdy Win from the Band It is surprising that it has taken so long for Sounds of Summer to be counted as one of the 50 most popular rock albums in America, considering how long it has been a commercial hit. The project dropped more than 20 years ago, back in 2003, and it already stands as the band's longest-charting title on the Billboard 200. As of this period, Sounds of Summer is up to 368 stays on the most competitive albums roster.
