The breakthrough of Anthropic Mythos has attracted attention from various fields. On April 15, when Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was asked about the significance of Anthropic Mythos for the AI landscape during an interview on the Dwarkesh Podcast , he gave an answer that went beyond commercial considerations: it shows that AI researchers in the United States and China must engage in dialogue.
Jensen Huang stated, "We hope the United States wins, but I believe that promoting dialogue and research dialogue is probably the safest approach."
Both sides need to establish a cross-border AI security framework to reach a consensus on the boundaries of AI use.
Export Control Challenges: China's Computing Power Has Not Been Blocked
Furthermore, Huang's assessment of the effectiveness of export controls is not optimistic for policymakers in Washington. When asked whether US controls have truly limited China's AI development, he stated bluntly: the Chinese market is not constrained by insufficient computing power.
There are three reasons: abundant energy resources, the ability to manufacture "mainstream" chips, and the technology to bundle and integrate more processors.
This stance echoes Huang's ongoing pressure on the Trump administration over the past year to ease export restrictions to China, hoping to resume sales of Nvidia's top-tier AI processors to Chinese customers. Last December, the Trump administration allowed Nvidia to export lower-end H200 AI chips to Chinese customers, but there has been no record of successful shipments to date.
Nvidia and Anthropic: Strategic Differences Between Allies
Jensen Huang's push to open up the Chinese market has created a subtle divergence in strategy between Nvidia and Anthropic.
Anthropic's CEO has consistently supported stricter export controls and stated in January that the H200 decision was a "mistake," although the two companies have maintained a deep business relationship since then.
Nvidia is investing $10 billion in Anthropic; as part of an agreement last November (which also involved a $15 billion investment from Microsoft), Anthropic committed to purchasing up to 1 GW of computing power from Nvidia.
