US CONSUMER SENTIMENT WEAKENS AS INFLATION EXPECTATIONS EASE US consumer sentiment fell to 48.2 in May, below expectations of 49.5 and down from 49.8 in April, according to the University of Michigan survey. The current conditions index dropped sharply to 47.8 from 52.5, while the expectations index edged up to 48.5. Inflation expectations eased slightly, with the 1-year outlook falling to 4.5% from 4.7% and the 5-year outlook slipping to 3.4% from 3.5%.
