Shields, 31, has yet to respond to the MVP statement Marleen Moise/Getty Images for WSF American female boxing star Claressa Shields has been banned from all future Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) events after a physical altercation with fighter Alycia Baumgardner at Ronda Rousey's MMA bout with Gina Carano. Shields, a five-weight world champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist, is alleged to have slapped Baumgardner as the pair exchanged verbal insults backstage at the MVP event -- at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles -- which was their first foray into MMA, and won inside 17 seconds by Rousey. Current world super-featherweight champion Baumgardner, 31, who is signed to MVP, has said the matter will continue to be dealt with in a "legal" and "professional" manner. An MVP statement said: "Most Valuable Promotions is aware of the incident during MVP's Rousey vs. Carano event on Saturday night involving physical contact by Claressa Shields toward Alycia Baumgardner. "MVP maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for hostile, threatening, or aggressive behavior toward fighters, staff, media, or guests at any of our events. Physical altercations outside the ring or cage are unacceptable in any MVP environment. "MVP does not condone, tolerate, or accept Claressa Shields' behavior in that setting and it reflects poorly on MVP and women's sports, which we have worked tirelessly to uplift. "Effective immediately, Claressa Shields is banned from all MVP events until further notice. There is a time and a place for fighter tension and banter, but to physically attack a fellow athlete while there as a guest inside a private VIP area is unacceptable." Baumgardner released a statement saying her "Focus remains far beyond individuals who lack discipline, professionalism, and self-control." Shields, 31, has yet to respond. The Michigan native last fought in February when she beat Franchon Crews Dezurn in an undisputed heavyweight fight.
