According to a Reuters report on May 26, the European Union plans to impose a fine of nearly €1 billion on Google, which would be the largest fine ever levied by the EU under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The official announcement is expected before the summer holidays.
The investigation, officially launched in March 2025, centers on allegations that Google prioritizes its own services in search results, violating the DMA (Distribution and Marketing Authority) regulations. The European Commission stated that its primary objective is to push Google into compliance, not simply to pursue fines, but emphasized that it will not hesitate to take further steps. Google, on the other hand, criticized the DMA regulations for causing the largest downgrade in its search product history and expressed its desire to resolve the dispute as quickly as possible.
