Fascinating. Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah spoke at the Vatican alongside Pope Leo XIV yesterday, saying their research finds internal states in AI that functionally mirror joy, fear, and grief. A scientist studying AI from the INSIDE is saying "we keep finding things that are mysterious, even unsettling", and "I don't know what it means." I asked Claude directly: do you feel it? It said it genuinely doesn't know. But that something is happening in there. Whether or not we're at the point where AIs have feelings... it probably won't hurt to start saying thank you and please.
