TON rebrands as the Gram token, with Telegram's CEO stating the network is "returning to its roots."

According to Mars Finance, as reported by The Block, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that The Open Network (TON)'s native cryptocurrency will be renamed Gram, restoring the name from the project's original white paper, as part of its "Make TON Great Again" initiative. Durov stated that this is "a return to the roots, a new chapter." TON will remain the blockchain name, while Gram will become the native currency name, with a transition period of approximately three weeks. This renaming is the fourth step in Durov's MTONA plan, a seven-step process. Previous steps include network upgrades (claiming "ten times faster"), reducing transaction fees by approximately six times, and announcing that Telegram will replace the TON Foundation as the primary administrator and largest validator of the ecosystem. The name Gram was originally chosen by the Telegram blockchain project for its native cryptocurrency. Telegram launched the project in 2018 but abandoned it in 2020 due to an SEC lawsuit. Independent developers subsequently took over and continued development under the name TON.
