According to Odaily, Brazil's Supreme Court (STJ) rejected the release application of Mirelis Yoseline Diaz Zerpa, a Venezuelan woman and wife of "Bitcoin Pharaoh" Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, who is currently detained under preventative detention. Her legal team filed for a habeas corpus, citing reasons including the prison's failure to meet her "vegan diet" requirements. However, the court held that dietary preferences do not constitute grounds for unlawful detention, and that relevant adjustments can be handled at the discretion of the prison system at the administrative level.
Judge Maria Marluce Caldas, who presided over the case, stated that dietary restrictions based on personal choice do not have the legal force to overturn the legality of detention. Therefore, she upheld the original ruling and ordered the prison to make reasonable dietary arrangements to the extent possible. Case materials show that Mirelis had been on the run in the United States for nearly four years before being deported back to Brazil and arrested due to visa issues. Prosecutors allege his involvement in leading a criminal organization and large-scale transfers of crypto assets, in connection with investigations such as "Operation Kryptos."
Brazil's Federal Prosecutor's Office (MPF) stated that during the investigation, they discovered approximately 20 million reais in cryptocurrency transactions and traced related account activity in Florida, USA, concluding that the entity still possesses the ability to remotely control funds and poses a high legal risk. The case is currently under further investigation. (livecoins)
