The encrypted data website CoinGecko conducted a questionnaire survey of 438 cryptocurrency users from December last year to January this year. They wanted to know how many encrypted users have been exposed to NFT since the NFT craze spread in 2021, and the degree of participation. After surveying, not only was the level of participation extremely high, but the majority tended to support a stricter regulatory environment.
CoinGecko Survey: Do You Own NFTs?
First, CoinGecko asked users the most basic question: "Do you own an NFT?"
According to the survey, up to 3/4 (75.8%) of cryptocurrency investors own NFTs in their portfolios, while only 2.5% of investors have held NFTs in the past but do not currently, which means that for whatever reason ( Locked up, low Liquidity or collection, etc.), as long as most people have ever held NFT, almost all of them have held it so far.
In addition, about 1/5 (21.7%) of cryptocurrency investors have never held NFT at all.
CoinGecko Survey: How many NFTs do you currently hold? ?
In another question, it can be seen that the purchase of NFT is not a one-time purchase. After the first NFT is obtained, subsequent purchases seem to follow.
In the question "How many NFTs do you currently hold?", the most people answered an astonishing 51 or more (26.5%), which means that as many as 1/4 of the people are NFT fanatics. The second most answered answer is 2-5 (17.6%), and those who only hold 1 NFT are 4.5%.
It can be seen that very few people stop participating in this market after acquiring an NFT for the first time, and 45% of people hold more than 10 NFTs. CoinGecko also stated that the adoption of well-known companies such as Adidas , Starbucks , and Reddit has given NFT more growth potential and made it easier for people to get in touch with it.
In addition, as NFTs continue to evolve to meet various needs, CoinGecko believes that more and more NFT holders may become avid collectors.
CoinGecko poll: When did you get your first NFT?
So, "When did you get your first NFT?"
Unsurprisingly, the most popular answer to this question is 2021. The NFT craze brought on by CryptoPunks and BAYC has brought the market trading volume to record highs. Nearly 4 out of every 10 people (38.8%) will get NFT in 2021. The first NFT.
Although the NFT boom is cooling down, 27.4% of investors will still get their first NFT in 2022, up from 18.4% in 2020. According to CoinGecko, this situation can be seen as a positive indicator that regardless of market conditions, NFT will continue to be popular and attract newcomers.
CoinGecko survey: Do NFT regulations need to be stricter?
As more and more people enter the world of NFT, the fraud and Liquidity risks related to NFT are getting more and more attention. In the question "Does NFT regulation need to be stricter?", nearly half (48.1%) of the people 18.7% expressed support, while those who strongly agreed to strengthen supervision accounted for 18.7%.
CoinGecko believes that the data shows that most people are in favor of regulation, but do not intervene too much. The reasons for the support of these NFT holders may be due to concerns about risky assets and the belief that they cannot protect their own assets.
In addition, perhaps due to the insistence on decentralization or the free market, even though the investment environment of NFT is full of risks and quite opaque, 22.4% of investors still oppose regulation. At present, they still maintain a neutral idea, and nearly 30% (29.4%) of users do not hold any opinion on supervision.
