According to previous reports by Zombit, Solana Mobile, the smartphone division of Layer 1 blockchain Solana, opened pre-orders for its second-generation Saga mobile phone "Chapter 2" on January 17. In order to "make Web3 technology more affordable and easier to spread around the world," the company set the initial pre-order price at $450, less than half the original price of the previous generation phone ($1,000).
The original sales of the first-generation mobile phone were not ideal, but subsequently many meme currency projects issued token airdrops to buyers of Saga mobile phones, which almost made up for the purchase cost of the mobile phone. Because of this, many people later regarded the purchase of Solana mobile phones as an investment. As a result, the second-generation mobile phone received 30,000 orders within 30 hours after opening pre-orders, surpassing the sales speed of the previous generation mobile phone.
So far, multiple meme currency projects have issued token airdrops for the Solana "Chapter 2" mobile phone (sent to the Solana wallet address filled in when pre-ordering). Among them, the two “cat”-themed meme coins with the highest value are the 37,600 Cat in a Dogs World (MEW) airdropped on April 1 and the 5,199 Maneki (MANEKI) tokens airdropped on April 24.
If the buyer did not sell these meme coins, the value of these two airdrops alone reached a peak of $504 (worth about $342 at the time of writing this article), and the price of the device is only $450, which means that Solana "Chapter 2 ” Buyers of the phone are close to even getting their money back.
If combined with the other three meme coin airdrops (WUFFI, IQ50 and CWIF) worth US$43.45, the total value of the token airdrop received by the Solana "Chapter 2" mobile phone is currently approximately US$385.62.
