Every Renaissance begins with a retreat.
Medieval scholars fled to monasteries, preserved classical texts, rebuilt knowledge while empire collapsed around them. When the old system fails, the wise build alternatives in the shadows.
We're in that moment now.
Centralized platforms deplatforming dissidents. Banks freezing accounts over political views. Governments building surveillance infrastructure that would make Orwell weep. The city has become a panopticon.
The point is not go about destroying institutions, but about making them irrelevant by building better ones. Build privacy into math. Don't demand fair algorithms - build systems that can't be unfair. Don't petition platforms for free speech - build infrastructure that can't censor.
Parallel systems > reformed systems.
