"keep going" is a popular piece of advice. often intended to provide words of encouragement, it can be great advice, but it can also be terrible advice. it depends on the context of your situation. the well-intentioned people encouraging you to "keep going" almost never understand the context of your situation as well as you do. so, even though it is hard, you need to decide whether you believe it is actually best to "keep going" in the context of your situation, because no one else can know what is best for you better than you. but just because you have more context does not mean it is easy to know what is best. it would be easy if you could foresee with certainty the outcomes of different paths forward and then choose one. it is hard because you can't. you can never know what the future holds. and since you can't know, the best you can do is trust. in other words, you can have faith. not that if you keep going on a specific path, it will necessarily work out in the specific way that you imagine, but in something bigger than that. "believe in something" they say. it can be a religion. it can be that everything happens for a reason. it can be destiny, or something else entirely. something that helps you make choices and take actions when you can't know what's best to do, and no one else is better suited to tell you. @jackbutcher made a great visual for "keep going" (image on the left below) which shows why "keep going" can be great advice, in certain situations. i modified it to create another visual (image on the right below) which shows why "keep going" can be bad advice, in other situations. fortunately, you can't know which visual you're in. all you can do is make choices and take actions and have faith.
