0/ I am writing some longer content on this because I think the problem here is both less understood and bigger than people realize. But let me start with this: I agree with @sytaylor here, and I'm glad @mikulaja got this out there. It is almost certain there is a big problem.

I saw @romanhelmetguy unironically call for Iran to be renamed Persia (again) if the revolution succeeds. I am going to plant a flag on this: it would work. The human brain is not rational. It's dumb. It's silly. But it will 100% change perception and it would work.

Every day it becomes harder to remain a Democrat. It's hard to fault Thiel and the rest of the tech industry for leaving CA if the government itself regards them as a problem to be eliminated, rather than an engine of growth.

1/ It is not well understood how pernicious this was, and how bad it could be in the future. Giving regulators unchecked, unreviewed, confidential power to pressure banks because, well, they feel like it? Yes. That is going to be abused. And it has been. Twice!
