I recently discovered an interesting sector, not Memecoins, not Layer 2, but domain names. First, a question: do you know how much the most expensive domain name ever sold for? http:/Cars.com, $872 million. http:/AI.com, $70 million. Good domain names have always been one of the most undervalued asset classes on the internet because they possess genuine scarcity—there's only one http:/Cars.com globally, and only one http:/Rides.com, just like there's only one Central or Manhattan location on Earth. However, the domain name market has a long-standing fatal flaw: extreme lack of liquidity. Once you buy it, you can only hold it; if you want to sell, you have to find a buyer, the whole process is time-consuming, laborious, and opaque. The problem with this asset class isn't that its value doesn't exist, but that it lacks a market. And now, @domaprotocol is solving this problem. Doma Protocol's approach is: to tokenize domain names and put them on the blockchain. You can trade domain names like tokens, hold high-value domains in fragmented lots, and use domains for DeFi operations—staking, lending, and liquidity mining. There's a term for this sector called DomainFi. It combines two of the most scarce asset classes—internet domains and crypto tokens—injecting liquidity into this long-dormant asset class. Currently, Doma has integrated over 115,000 real domains, supporting Base, Solana, Avalanche, and Ethereum on its underlying blockchain. It's backed by D3 Global and a $25 million Series A funding round led by Paradigm. Paradigm is one of the top VCs in the crypto industry. They've invested in Uniswap, Blur, and Flashbots. Their investment logic is simple: only bet on underlying infrastructure, and only bet on the direction with the strongest certainty in the long run. It's not about how much http:/Rides.com is worth now, but rather that the ceiling for this type of domain is on the same scale as those proven examples (http:/Cars.com, http:/AI.com). There's a saying I think is very apt: the name exists before the brand. DomainFi is a narrative I believe deserves serious attention this year.
