Today, while seeing an advertisement for a Damien Hirst exhibition on the subway, I was surprised to see a very familiar painting, so I looked it up.
It was an advertisement for Damien Hirst's exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and suddenly, a familiar painting caught my eye. It is a Damien Hirst NFT that anyone who participated in NFT trading in 2021 would undoubtedly recognize; it was a piece that, if sold in 2021 and subsequently burned, could be received as a physical artwork.
However, upon further investigation, I found out that it wasn't the "The Currency" NFT from 2021, but rather a work called "Point Painting" created in 1986 (The Currency is a recent variation of that piece).
For "The Currency," 5,149 people chose the physical artwork, while 4,851 chose the NFT. The minting price was $2,000, but the current NFT price is around $1,900, while the physical artwork is trading for at least $8,000.
