[After losing $40,000, I will no longer use Metamask Wallet🦊] This is a post about wallet and asset security 🔐 Even if you back up your seed phrase and use the official wallet, there is still a risk of losing your assets. I just lost 40,000 US dollars, and it all started with the collapse of the Little Fox Wallet👇

As the first wallet for most new users, @MetaMask has added enough features in version iterations and updates, including estimating gas fees, finding tokens and NFTs in the wallet, and customizing RPCs. But this update also brings a lot of incompatibilities and crashes, which can be seen in the comments of the Google Store:

On April 24, I introduced the solution to the crash of 🦊Little Metamask 11.14.1 version, including changing the wallet language and turning off estimated gas. However, these solutions are based on the premise that the wallet can enter the interface normally after restarting, but it crashes after initiating a transaction. x.com/shouyi16/status/17828231...

This morning, when I switched RPC to a test node of alchemy, the wallet prompted "Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'id')" and then crashed with an error. This is probably because I switched to a broken RPC that the Metamask wallet cannot read. When I tried to reopen Metamask to delete this RPC, the problem occurred ⚠️

The RPC name in the upper left corner of the wallet is displayed as a "?" When I entered the wallet password, it immediately crashed and I had no way to access the wallet to delete the network. Even when I clicked it to try to switch networks, the wallet crashed. 😊If you are curious, you can back up seed phrase and try again as above.

Fortunately, I seed phrase 😄 So I uninstalled the Metamask Wallet and entered the seed phrase. When the Metamask Wallet showed that the ETH balance was 0, I realized that I had lost 40,000 US dollars. Because this is a brand new wallet, that's it 😩

This may be because I: 1. The wrong seed phrase was copied; 2. I encrypted the seed phrase twice, changed the order but forgot about it. So I could only try to find the wallet I logged into on other devices. My dad placed his hope on old computers and mobile phones, as well as @zerion on his iPad. I remembered that I had logged in there before, so as long as I opened it and exported the seed phrase, I would be saved.

When I opened my phone and saw @zerion showing me the features of its new app, I realized it had updated and cleared my past data ☹️ At this point, I had no choice but to accept the loss of $40,000, but at the same time gained $40,000 worth of experience:

1. Do not add RPCs at random and delete unused networks regularly; 2. Although it is not recommended to import seed phrase into multiple wallets, software and hardware crashes are inevitable, so try to use more than 2 devices; 3. Make sure to restore the wallet before uninstalling the previous wallet; 4. Don’t be too clever and re-encrypt your seed phrase without remembering them; 5. The seed phrase must be verified and kept in two or more copies, and stored in a different location; 6. The comments section is a scam
